When I have begun affiliate marketing business I have no idea where to start and, in fact, I didn’t know what it is, and that it actually exists. I was using Internet for 10 years, but I never thought that average people can make money online.
So, the first step was extensive research, as everything I learned was completely new to me. I learned what is affiliate marketing, what is keywords, what is squeeze page, what kind of marketing methods exists and how to do the research to find the winning niche. This was very exciting, as every hour was like new discovery.
Once I had this basic knowledge, I started to take some action. The first thing I did, I was getting familiar with all the Google tools and traffic generation techniques. I began to learn about Google Adwords.

All this took me a month or even a bit more, and then I began to test some of the first marketing campaigns. I pick the product – at that time (well, I think it is even still like that) the hot product was a reverse phone lookup. So, I set up my campaign, and I even make one sale. But, of course the total picture was a disaster – I overspend my account for about $500, and it was a huge problem for me.
(If I would spend that $500 on proper training, I would never fail in this first campaign)
But, I didn’t give up. I bought some Google Adwords spy software, as I was reading that it could help me to make my campaign profitable from the start.
I started to test it, and once again I fail. This software does help me, but my overall understanding about Google Adwords was too weak in order to properly use it.
So, in that point I finished my Google Adword stuff, and I was $800 in more debt because of this.
Since I still kept reading about affiliate marketing, and I saw how people are making money, I couldn’t believe that it doesn’t work. So, I got somewhere the money, and I bought some of the e-courses about Internet business.
While I was reading this e-course, I started to count my mistakes, and what I didn’t do correctly. I didn’t know that I actually can target my campaigns to the particular audience, location and I even can set up a scheduling. I find out that I can do the research and find out what the actual customers for particular product are. So, small investment in one e-course, could save me 4 months and $800 of lost money.
Amazing, I started to do Google Adwords again and this time I got it right. I made 10 sales per day and my conversation was 1.8%, which is really good for direct campaign.
After my first success, I understood that I do not need to invent the wheel. I can use the knowledge of some of the other people and make money fast.
